Decision will be made on February 1

DEI offices in the states have also been ordered to be closed. The fate of the DEI employees will be decided on February 1. Reports have been sought from all federal offices regarding the DEI. There are a total of 3.2 million federal employees in the US.  Of these, 8 lakh employees work under the DEI program. Of these, about one lakh are Indians. This includes those who have received US citizenship and work visas such as H-1B visas. Indian students doing part-time jobs are not included.

When did the DEI program start?

The DEI program was started in the US in the year 1960 to give equal opportunities to all classes in employment, education, and other fields. It is inspired by the ideals of the then-President John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King. The federal and state governments employ religious and racial minorities.
