External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met his Japanese counterpart Takeshi Iwaya in Washington DC. During this time, they discussed progress in bilateral cooperation and took stock of the developments in the Quad. Prior to this meeting, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also met Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong in Washington DC and said that it was a pleasure to meet Foreign Minister Penny Wong, an associate of the Quad, in Washington DC. Inauguration Ceremony of the President of the United States
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is representing the Indian government at the swearing-in ceremony of US President-elect Donald Trump as the 47th President of the United States. According to the State Department, he will attend the swearing-in ceremony at the invitation of the Trump-Vance Inauguration Committee. During the visit, he will meet representatives of the incoming administration as well as some other dignitaries who visited the United States on that occasion. At the invitation of the Trump-Vance Inauguration Committee, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will represent the Government of India at the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Donald J. Trump as the 47th President of the United States of America, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a press release.
Los Angeles Welcomes New Consulate
Earlier on January 17, he was joined by US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti for the inauguration of the US Consulate in Bangalore. Describing the move as a "significant moment" in Indo-US relations, Jaishankar also announced that India will soon open its consulate in Los Angeles. Addressing the gathering, Jaishankar highlighted several aspects of Indo-US relations and said that the opening of the consulate was long overdue.
