As reported by the Express Tribune, a demonstration led by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the political party of imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan, led to one fatality and several injuries in Islamabad.
As reported by the Express Tribune, a police constable died from serious injuries, and over 70 officers were injured in violent clashes with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protesters in Islamaba.
According to a post on X by the PTI, around 20 people have been directly shot by the present authoritarian government, which is using excessive force to prevent citizens from reaching Islamabad for a peaceful protest against the regime.
It was also observed that the government has used all forms of repression, such as expired tear gas shells, rubber bullets, and stun grenades.
They have employed every possible tactic to quell dissent as this military-supported regime is holding onto a stolen mandate, which the people of Pakistan are insisting should be returned to its legitimate winner, Imran Khan. With Pakistan nearly under lockdown, the situation keeps worsening.
The party urged the international community to promptly address the situation in Pakistan and advocate for the restoration of democracy and the protection of human rights in the country.
According to a post on X by PTI, thousands of Pakistanis were peacefully marching in Islamabad to demand three main agendas: the revocation of the 26th Amendment, the restoration of Pakistan's constitution, the return of the stolen mandate, and the release of political prisoners.
In response to the protests, PTI Chairperson Gohar Khan and Saif had a 90-minute meeting with PTI founder Imran Khan in Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi, as reported by the Express Tribune.
After the meeting, Gohar Khan characterized the discussion as important, affirming that Imran Khan's call for a protest is definitive and dismissing rumors of its cancellation as false, according to the Express Tribune.
Addressing the media post-meeting, Gohar Khan stressed that the PTI founder's position on the protest remains steadfast, and the movement will continue as scheduled. The meeting centered on strategic discussions about the current political scenario and the party's future plans, the Express Tribune reported.
