On Tuesday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Jaishankar shared details of their meeting on social media platform X, mentioning that they reviewed the recent troop withdrawal in Ladakh and discussed future steps in their bilateral relationship.
In his post, Jaishankar stated, 'Met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, a member of the CPC Politburo, on the sidelines of the G-20 Summit in Rio.
We discussed the progress made in the recent disengagement in the India-China border areas.'
Jaishankar mentioned that India and China discussed the future steps in their bilateral relations and the global situation.
The meeting between Jaishankar and Wang Yi follows Prime Minister Modi's meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping during the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, a month ago.
Prime Minister Modi emphasized that the relationship between India and China is crucial for both nations' people and for regional and global peace and stability.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also echoed this sentiment, stating that discussions are ongoing between India and China at diplomatic and military levels to resolve conflicts in some areas along the LAC.
Following recent discussions, a broad agreement has been reached to restore the situation on the ground, based on equal and mutual security.
The agreement covers rights related to patrolling and grazing in traditional areas. 'With this consensus, the disengagement process is nearly complete,' he stated.
We aim to move beyond the disengagement, but that will require more time. The border standoff between India and China began in eastern Ladakh along the LAC in 2020 due to Chinese military actions.
This incident caused prolonged tension between the two countries, straining their relations. Meanwhile, India and China are about to mark 75 years of diplomatic relations.
