Bastar district of Chhattisgarh has been declared Naxal-free. With this historic move of the Modi government, Bastar has been excluded from the list of Naxal-affected districts. This announcement has raised new hopes of development among the people of Bastar.

Bastar district in Chhattisgarh has been removed from the list of areas affected by Naxal activities. Previously recognized as a hub for extremist activities, the district has been declared free from Naxalism thanks to efforts by the dual-engine government.

The Union Home Minister has decided to categorize Bastar under LWE and legacy districts. The District Magistrate of Bastar has shared this information.

By 2026, Chhattisgarh will be Naxalism-free

The central government plans to eliminate Naxalism from Chhattisgarh by March 31, 2026. Regarding Bastar's removal from Naxalism, the District Magistrate mentioned that the Ministry of Home Affairs' decision has led to the cessation of financial aid to Bastar. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) classifies districts impacted by Naxalism as affected by Left Wing Extremism.

Naxalism has been entirely eradicated in Bastar, paving the way for gradual development in the area. Previously classified under the LWE category, Bastar used to receive substantial government funding for development and countering Naxalism. However, the district has now been removed from the LWE category.
