The Uttar Pradesh government has included science and mathematics in the curriculum for classes 9 to 12 in madrasas. This will enable students to pursue modern education along with traditional subjects. A committee meeting will be held soon to implement this decision.

Uttar Pradesh News: The Uttar Pradesh administration has made a significant decision regarding students in madrasas. Students in grades 9 through 12 will now learn modern subjects such as science and mathematics in addition to traditional ones. Previously, madrasas followed the Basic Education Council syllabus for grades 1 to 8, while grades 9 to 12 focused mainly on languages like Urdu, Arabic, and Persian.

Media reports indicate that the government has resolved to include science and mathematics in the madrasa syllabus as per the UP Board. This change will enable students to receive a modern education similar to that of regular schools. A committee meeting will be organized shortly to put this decision into action, with the Director of Social Welfare leading the discussion on the new curriculum.

How many madrassas are there in Uttar Pradesh?

In Uttar Pradesh, there are 13,329 officially recognized madrassas operating. Among them, 9,979 madrassas cater to primary and upper primary levels, which include classes 1 to 8. Additionally, 3,350 madrassas are dedicated to secondary and higher secondary education, covering classes 9 to 12.

How many students are studying?

Approximately 231,000 students are registered in 561 supported madrassas across the state. They will now receive education in science and mathematics alongside traditional subjects to enhance their educational standards.

Why is this decision important?

This government initiative is deemed unique as it aims to modernize madrasa education, making it more practical. Students will gain broader educational opportunities beyond religious and language studies, enabling them to excel in engineering, medical fields, and competitive exams.
