Uttar Pradesh On Monday evening, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath toured Varanasi to review two significant health initiatives underway at BHU. He examined the 'National Center for Aging' at the IMS BHU campus and the 'Critical Care Unit' (CCU) in progress at the Trauma Center. Additionally, CM Yogi directed officials and construction firms to expedite the completion of these projects to ensure timely benefits for the public.
Media reports indicate that the National Center for Aging is being constructed on the BHU campus with an investment of Rs 147.39 crore. This center is specifically designed to serve individuals over 60 years old, providing them with comprehensive treatment, diagnostic, and care facilities all in one location.
BHU to become India's third ageing centre
Previously, specialized aging centers for the elderly were available only at AIIMS Delhi and Madras Medical College. However, a third center is now being established at BHU (Kashi Hindu University). This facility will be spread across six floors and will include 200 beds. Over 8,000 patients visit the BHU Trauma Centre and Hospital daily, with approximately 1,500 of them being elderly. In this context, the new aging center will be highly advantageous for senior citizens.
The Chief Minister reviewed the ongoing construction of the Critical Care Unit in the Trauma Centre's courtyard, valued at approximately Rs 119.74 crore. This unit will feature a 150-bed capacity, encompassing three modern modular operating theatres, an ICU, emergency care, and a burns ward. Additionally, a dedicated burn ward with 40 beds is being established to offer immediate care to patients suffering from fire-related injuries or burns.
Modern facilities should be available to the public soon
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that Varanasi, which is the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has to be made a model of health facilities in the country. He also directed to maintain the quality of construction works and complete the work within the stipulated time frame.
Operations will be done under the NPHCE scheme
This ageing centre is being developed under the central government's National Senior Citizen Health Care Program (NPHCE). The programme aims to provide dedicated and accessible healthcare services for the elderly across the country.
