In Amritsar, 14 people died and 6 people were hospitalized in critical condition after consuming poisonous liquor. The police have started investigating the case and arrested the main accused Prabhjit Singh. The government has ordered strict action against the liquor mafia.

Tragic news has emerged from Punjab's Amritsar district, where police reported on Saturday that at least 14 individuals have died and six others are critically hospitalized after allegedly consuming illicit liquor in the villages of Madai and Bhagli in the Majitha area.

As per the media report, the police promptly responded to the incident by filing a case and initiating an investigation. The police stated that the case involves two villages in the Amritsar district, Madai and Bhagli, where residents consumed adulterated liquor. Meanwhile, the deceased's bodies have been seized and sent for autopsy, and the investigation is ongoing.

Main accused Arrested

Maninder Singh, SSP Amritsar (Rural), announced the arrest of Prabhjit Singh, identified as the primary distributor of counterfeit liquor in the case. Prabhjeet is considered the leader of the group. He faces charges under Section 105 BNS and 61A of the Excise Act. Additional arrests include his brother Kulbir Singh, also known as Jaggu, Sahib Singh, also known as Sarai, Gurjant Singh, and Ninder Kaur.

The government has initiated a thorough investigation into the liquor mafia, treating the incident with utmost seriousness. The police are probing the connections within the illegal liquor network, and the questioning of those accused is underway.

Following this tragic event, the community is in mourning and the residents are filled with anger. Locals claim that the consumption of toxic alcohol has darkened many households. Such occurrences are not new, as Punjab and other states have witnessed similar incidents before. Previously, there have been numerous reports of fatalities due to fake liquor in states like Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat.
