The Aligarh Muslim University received an email on Thursday with a bomb threat, after which the authorities and the law enforcement agencies were immediately alerted to take action. With the ransom demand at Rs 2 lakh, a thorough search operation was conducted all over the campus.
Circle Officer Abhay Kumar Pandey confirmed that the university alerted the police regarding the threat, after which the bomb disposal unit, dog squad, and cyber teams were quickly deployed to trace the source of the email. "The university informed us of the bomb threat and we instantly dispatched the bomb disposal unit along with the dog squad to frisk isolated spots in the campus. Our cyber teams are probing the origin of the email also, he added.
The search operations which concentrated at some important pockets on the campus till now could not spot anything suspicious.
AMU Proctor Professor Mohd Wasim Ali clarified that the administration is taking every measure to secure the students and staff. "We have alerted the police and the investigation is underway. Currently, we are not aware of who the sender is. The mail also asks for a ransom amount of Rs 2 lakh," he said.
Police and the university officials are working closely together to ensure safety for everyone in the campus as the investigation is still ongoing. Authorities have encouraged students and members of the faculty to be alert and report suspicious activity to the police immediately.
