Numerous individuals sought refuge in night shelters as the temperature fell in the national capital on Wednesday night. The IMD recorded the temperature in Delhi at 7 degrees Celsius early Thursday morning.

According to a caretaker at the RK Puram night shelter, bedding and mattresses are supplied, and residents receive food twice daily. They are also given tea in the morning and have access to lockers. Additionally, machines for heating water are available. In case of illness, an ambulance service is available. A first aid kit is also provided. We have 18 beds.

The national capital was shrouded in a cold wave and fog on Thursday morning. Earlier, on Wednesday, IMD scientist Dr. Soma Sen Roy indicated that a western disturbance could lead to fog in the national capital on Thursday and the subsequent day.

Dr. Roy pointed out that the current weather patterns are likely to cause a decrease in minimum temperatures due to western disturbances. He mentioned that the combination of variable and calm winds, along with increased moisture from these disturbances, creates ideal conditions for fog formation.

Dr. Roy also mentioned that this western disturbance has introduced significant moisture, particularly from the Bay of Bengal, resulting in ideal conditions for fog formation.

Speaking to ANI, Dr Soma Sen Roy said, "A western disturbance has occurred over the past two days, and a new one has appeared today. Although these disturbances haven't resulted in substantial rainfall, they have created a low-level cyclonic circulation that has attracted considerable moisture, particularly from the Bay of Bengal. The rise in moisture has caused an increase in minimum temperatures and foggy conditions. As expected, moderate to dense fog is probable today and tomorrow".

"Western disturbances alter wind patterns, causing them to become inconsistent and gentle, while increasing humidity levels, both of which are perfect conditions for fog formation," he said.

As this weather disturbance progresses eastward, we anticipate that winds will resume from the north due to light snowfall in the western Himalayan area. Consequently, northwesterly winds will begin to impact the region. For Delhi, we have predicted light to moderate to dense fog for tomorrow, which is expected to persist for the next one or two days.
