With temperatures in the national capital remaining in the single digits, homeless individuals have sought refuge in night shelters. These shelters offer them bedding, blankets, food, and first aid.
Manoj Rawat, the night shelter caretaker, mentioned, 'Currently, we have 16 to 17 individuals staying here. They receive food and tea twice a day. If someone becomes ill, we have a first-aid kit available, and for serious illnesses, we transport them to the hospital.' He also noted that there are rescue teams patrolling with ambulances.
According to officials, the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) has set up 235 pagoda tents to provide shelter to homeless people.
Simultaneously, the air quality in the capital city remained in the 'poor' category. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi's AQI was noted at 209 at 7 am on Wednesday.
An AQI ranging from 0-50 is considered good, 51-100 is satisfactory, 101-200 is moderate, 201-300 is poor, 301-400 is very poor, and 401-500 is severe.
A cyclist told ANI, "Over the past three days, the weather in the capital has shifted. The sky is now clear. On Tuesday at 7 am, the national capital registered a temperature of 8.0 degrees Celsius".
The India Meteorological Department has forecasted colder nights to continue, extending until December 12. Delhi's minimum temperature is likely to fall to 6 degrees Celsius.
At the same time, temperatures in the capital of Jammu and Kashmir fell below freezing. The IMD reported that Srinagar experienced a temperature of -0.8 degrees Celsius at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday. On Tuesday, Jammu and Kashmir saw a maximum temperature of 10 degrees Celsius and a minimum of -2 degrees Celsius, with partly cloudy skies.
The hill town of Shimla and its adjoining areas in North India are reeling under a severe cold wave following snowfall. The icy conditions have created difficulties for the residents, affecting their daily routines.
