Just a day after taking the oath as Maharashtra's deputy chief minister, NCP leader Ajit Pawar received significant relief on Friday regarding a case involving Benami properties.

The Income Tax Department has been ordered by the Benami Property Tribunal in Delhi to return his property.

In 2021, the Income Tax Department seized the assets of Ajit Pawar, his son Parth Pawar, and his wife Sumitra Pawar in connection with a benami property case.

On October 7, 2021, the department retrieved some documents during raids on multiple companies. He asserted that these documents were linked to Ajit's family and benami properties.

The Benami Prevention Appellate Tribunal had thrown out the charges. Afterwards, the Income Tax Department contested the tribunal's ruling, but the tribunal dismissed their appeal.
