Puducherry: Puducherry's Education Minister, A, announced that all government and private schools, along with colleges, will remain closed on Tuesday, December 3, in response to the heavy rainfall caused by Cyclone Fengal. The closure is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and staff amid the adverse weather conditions. Furthermore, the Puducherry government has declared a relief assistance of Rs 5,000 for all ration cardholders affected by the cyclone. This financial aid aims to help families cope with the disruption caused by the cyclone and the ensuing heavy rains, providing some relief during this challenging time.

There is a 48% chance of rain

On Monday, Chief Minister N Rangaswamy stated that Puducherry experienced 48% rainfall due to Cyclone Fhengal, an unprecedented event. He announced that the Puducherry government would offer a relief assistance of Rs 5,000 to all ration card holders impacted by the cyclone.

Destruction of 10,000 hectares of crops

As a result of heavy rainfall, 10,000 hectares of crops have been destroyed in Puducherry, prompting a decision to grant Rs 30,000 per hectare to the impacted farmers. Cyclone Fengal has caused significant damage in Puducherry and Tamil Nadu. Recently, 50 boats have been damaged by the floods, and the government has declared a relief package of Rs 10,000 for their repair.

NDRF team involved in rescue mission

The cyclone resulted in intense rainfall in the coastal regions of northern Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. In Puducherry, the Sankaraparani river overflowed, submerging over 200 homes in NR Nagar. Residents in the area are stranded while the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Indian Army are conducting rescue operations.
