On Sunday, DCP Crime Bhisham Singh revealed that Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has directed the Delhi Police, Narcotics Control Bureau, and all relevant agencies to work towards eliminating drugs from the national capital within the next three years.

He mentioned that groups would be established to focus on drug dealers and carry out arrests.

The Lieutenant Governor held a state-level review meeting on November 26, which was attended by all departments. During the meeting, the LG directed the Delhi Police, Narcotics Control Bureau, and all other departments to work towards making Delhi drug-free within the next three years, as stated by the DCP Crime.

He detailed the measures that will be implemented to tackle the drug problem in the national capital.

Teams Will Be Formed For Investigation

"The LG also directed that in December 2024, a campaign should be started as a comprehensive pilot project, we have started that... Drug recovery and arrests of drug peddlers would be done. Other than that, teams will be formed to check all places where drug peddling is possible. The teams will work with a targetted approach..." he added further," Singh added.

Anti-drug Campaign Announced

Previously, in an effort to address the escalating issue of drug abuse, LG Saxena declared the initiation of a one-month anti-drug campaign scheduled to commence on December 1.

According to a press release from the LG's office, this assertive effort is a component of a larger strategy aimed at making Delhi drug-free within the next three years, significantly ahead of the nationwide target for a drug-free India.

At the ninth review meeting of the State-Level Committee Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD), Saxena stressed that the drug problem not only affects the health of young people but also has significant international implications. He pointed out that drugs are being strategically used to undermine the youth of India, and consequently, the nation as a whole.
