The Indian star batter Shreyas Iyer once again failed to make it to the national team for a tournament such as the 2025 Asia Cup, after missing the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Iyer has performed in almost all formats he has played in in recent few years and even took Punjab Kings to the finals in IPL 2025 after a span of almost 11 years, which they unfortunately lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
In IPL 2025 he scored 604 runs at a strike rate of 175.07 and was the highest run scorer in the Champions Trophy 2025. However, he didn't get a place in the squad, and not in the reserves either. Since then, many cricket experts and fans have raised questions on this move of the management, criticizingthe decision they made.
However, now Shreyas Iyer's father expressed his frustration by stating that he has no idea what his son has to do to make his place in the Indian T20I team. He also added that his son has performed well in both IPL and domestic cricket, but still he didn't find his place in the squad.
He said,
"I don't know what else Shreyas has to do to make it to the Indian T20 team. He has been performing so well in the IPL year after year, from Delhi Capitals to Kolkata Knight Riders to Punjab Kings, and that too as a captain. He even captained KKR to the IPL title in 2024 and led PBKS to the final this year. I'm not saying make him the Indian captain, but at least select him in the Indian team."
Further, he said that his son Shreyas, no matter what happens, never lets those things come to his face. He just says that it's his luck and he can't do anything and is the kind of person who keeps his emotions hidden, but inside he is heartbroken too.
He said,
"However, let me tell you that even if he's left out of the Indian team, he doesn't show dissent on his face. He'll just say, "Mera nasseb hai (it's my luck)! You can't do anything now.' He's always cool and calm. He doesn't blame anybody. Deep inside, he must be naturally disappointed."
