Former Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin recently made a bold revelation, stating that he had advised all the IPL teams to go after the Australian batter Tim David during the IPL 2025 mega auction, but he was listened to by none. In IPL 2024, David represented the Mumbai Indians, and after that he was released by the five-time champions, and in the auction he was bought by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for just 3 crores.
The Australian batter turned out to be a game changer for RCB in their maiden IPL title-winning season. In IPL 2025, David played 12 matches and scored 187 runs at a strike rate of 185.15.
Ashwin, who played for CSK in IPL 2025, opened up on how he told all the teams to go for David during the auction and stated RCB's move was a 'steal deal.'
He said,
"I shouldn't say this, but I told the decision-makers of a few IPL teams to pick him before the last auction. They all said, 'No, his game has dropped off drastically."
Further, he said,
"I believe the future of T20 cricket is going to be having tall batters with long levers and strong builds. They are going to rule the roost if there are no changes brought to the wide line. A player RCB picked up at a base price (INR 3 crore) has taken his game to the next level. It's good to see Australia sending him up the order. A real steal for RCB."
RCB lifted their first trophy in the IPL edition after beating Shreyas Iyer's Punjab Kings on June 3 in Ahmedabad. If we look at Tim David's recent performance, then he is giving his best for his national team in the ongoing white-ball series against South Africa.
