Asia Cup 2025: Shreyas Iyer, Yashasvi Jaiswal To Get Dropped? Squad Announcement Date Revealed

Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal likely to get drop from Asia Cup 2025

Prachi Kapruwan

The Indian team for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 will be finalized and announced on August 19, with a selection meeting to be held in Mumbai. Suryakumar Yadav, who is currently leading team India in T20I, will be coming to Mumbai for attending the meeting. He is recovering from sports hernia surgery at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. As he has resumed the practice in the next session, there are hopes and chances that he will be the captain of the team for the tournament.

A BCCI source stated,

"Yes, the team for the Asia Cup will be picked on Aug 19 in Mumbai. The selection committee meeting will be followed by a press conference by chief selector, former India pacer Ajit Agarkar."

Further, the source stated,

"In fact, with India looking to persist with the opening pair of Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma, Gill is currently struggling to even make it to the side. Even Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had a great series in England, and middle-order bat Shreyas Iyer are likely not to be picked for the T20 side. Jaiswal has been told by the selector to focus on red-ball cricket."

Shubman Gill

The thing did not stop here; there have been reports that Shubman Gill might be appointed as vice captain, but a BCCI insider also hinted that as of now his position in the team is not fixed yet. With Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, and skipper Suryakumar Yadav already in the top order, it will be a bit difficult for Gill to make his place.

After India successfully won the T20 World Cup 2024, Gill has scored 893 runs in 22 games at an average of 47.00 with a strike rate of over 147, including eight half centuries and a highest score of 93*.
