The Indian star bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been released from India's squad for the five-match test series against England after he was not included in the playing XI in the ongoing series at the Oval to manage his workload, as stated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He was not spotted in the Indian bus for attending the five-day game.
In an official statement released by BCCI on Friday, it is being stated that
"Mr. Jasprit Bumrah has been released from India's squad for the fifth test of the series against England. The fifth and final test of the series is underway at Kennigton Oval, London."
Before the start of the five-match test series in England, it was already announced that Bumrah will be available to play only 3 tests out of five due to his workload management. He played the first test at Headingley, Leeds, the third test at Lord's, and the fourth test at Manchester.
In all three tests, he picked up 14 wickets, including two five-wicket hauls, and bowled 119.4 overs at an average of 26, becoming the leading wicket taker in the series for India. It was expected that Bumrah might play in the fifth test at the Oval, but he wasn't included in the playing XI.
Indian assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate at the end of day 1 game said,
"We obviously want to wheel him out, but we also want to respect where his body is at, and on the basis of that, we just felt that it wasn't worth including him in the squad. He has bowled a large number of overs; I know it doesn't always seem like that because he's only played three tests, and he's only bowled in one inning in Manchester."
"But if you look at the loads, he's bowled a lot of overs, and like he did say coming into the tour, he was going to be available for three games, and we just felt it was right on that call."
