Mohammed Kaif Predicts Jasprit Bumrah's Early Test Retirement Due To Injuries

Kaif Foresees Bumrah's Test Exit Amid Injury Struggles

Former Indian cricketer Mohammed Kaif feels Jasprit Bumrah might take the retirement soon, as he's been struggling a bit in the ongoing fourth Test at the Old Trafford. He has been bowling with a speed in the 130-135 kmph range, which is slightly a bit less as compared to the opener match in Headingley. In the Leeds and Lord's Test, he bowled at a speed of 140 kmph.

In the first innings of the fourth test, Bumrah has taken just a single wicket, giving away 99 runs in 30 overs, and dismissed wicketkeeper batter Jamie Smith. He was also seen holding his ankle during the second session of the fourth test. However, he did come to bowl in the final session and continues to bowl on the fourth day.

Kaif, the former cricketer, states that the fans should be well prepared for cricket without Bumrah in the longest format of the game. It was already made clear that he will be playing only three tests to manage his workload in the ongoing five-match test series against England.

In a recent video shared by Kaif on his social media account, he stated that

"Jasprit Bumrah, I don't think you will see him playing in the upcoming test matches. And he might even take retirement. He is struggling with his body. His body has totally given up. His speeds have been on the lower side in the Manchester Test. There is no speed in this Test match."

Further, he said,

"And he is a selfless person. If he feels that he is not able to give 100 percent for the country, that he is not able to win the match, that he is not getting the wickets, then he himself will refuse. This is my gut feeling."

The reason more focus is done on Bumrah for his workload management is due to the injury he faced in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in the Sydney Test, which ruled him out of competitive cricket for three months, missing the Champions Trophy too.

Mohammad Kaif

Kaif urged fans to get used to cricket without Bumrah, as he might end his Test cricket career soon.

He said,

"But the speed—he is throwing the ball at a speed of 130-125. And the wicket he got, the catch that the keeper took, he also caught by diving. His passion is the same. But he has lost to his body. He has lost his fitness. His body is not supporting him. His failure in this Test match clearly shows that I feel there will be problems in the Test matches. You may not see him playing. First, Virat Kohli went. Then Rohit Sharma went. Ashwin is not there. Now, without Bumrah, get used to it, Indian fans. I feel that you will have to get used to watching Test matches without him as well."
