MI New York won their second title by defeating Washington Freedom by 5 runs in the final of MLC 2025, played on 14 July 2025 at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. The match went till the last over and was very exciting for the spectators present at the ground and the ones sitting at home.
MI New York got off to a great start. Batting first, Monank Patel and Quinton de Kock gave a quick start. Monank scored 28 runs in 22 balls, while de Kock played a quick innings of 77 runs in 46 balls. He played a very crucial role in giving the team a strong start.
In the middle order, Tajinder Singh scored 14 runs off 9 balls, and captain Nicholas Pooran scored 21 runs off 16 balls. With the help of these contributions, MI New York scored 180 runs in 20 overs, which was a good score. The most successful bowler from Washington Freedom was Lockie Ferguson, who took 3 wickets. Apart from him, Saurabh Netravalkar, Glenn Maxwell, Jack Edwards, and Ian Holland also got one wicket each.
Chasing 180 runs, Washington Freedom had a terrible start. The team lost both its openers—Mitchell Owen and Andries Gaus—on zero. This put pressure on the team, but Rachin Ravindra batted brilliantly and scored 70 runs in 41 balls and kept the team in the match.
After this, Glenn Phillips played a controlled innings and scored an unbeaten 48 runs in 34 balls. He slowly brought the score closer to the target. The most important turning point of the match came when Glenn Maxwell was out after scoring 15 runs. At that time, Freedom needed 12 runs in the last over, but MI New York bowlers showed patience and won the match.
