Shubman Gill Eyes Historic Records In Test Series Against England

Gill Nears Bradman's Record in Thrilling Test Series

Prachi Kapruwan

Team India's new skipper, Shubman Gill, started the five-match Test series against England with a bang. He has scored more than 585 runs in the two Test matches played so far. Due to this brilliant performance, he is very close to breaking many big records. There are still three tests left, which means he has a chance to play six more innings. If Gill remains in this form, he can write a new chapter in cricket history.

The next Test between India and England is to be played at Lord's ground. The ground where many great players have spent the best moments of their careers—now Gill has a chance to join this list and leave behind some historical records.

Most runs as captain in a Test series

In the 1936-37 Ashes series, Australian legend Sir Don Bradman scored 810 runs as captain. Shubman Gill has scored 585 runs so far, and if he scores 225 more runs in the remaining six innings, he can break this record of Bradman.

Most runs in a Test series

This record is also held by Sir Bradman, who scored a total of 974 runs in the 1930 Ashes series. Shubman Gill will have to score 390 more runs in the next six innings to break this record. Looking at his current form, it seems like he can break this record of his as well.

Fastest 1000 runs as Test captain

Bradman scored the fastest 1000 Test runs as captain in just 11 innings. Shubman Gill has currently scored 585 runs in just 4 innings. If he continues to score runs at this pace, he can surpass Bradman in this matter as well.

Most centuries in a Test series

Bradman has scored the most centuries in a series as captain. However, West Indies' Clyde Walcott tops the list in this case, who scored 5 centuries against Australia in 1955. Gill has scored two centuries so far. If he scores two more centuries, he can equal Walcott's record.

No player in history has been able to score 1000 runs in a 5-match Test series, not even Bradman. But Shubman Gill has a great opportunity to do this feat. If he maintains this tremendous form, he can write his name in golden letters in the pages of history.
