Maxwell Bids Farewell to ODIs, Focuses on T20 Future

Australian cricketer Glenn Maxwell has announced his retirement from ODI cricket. The 36-year-old Maxwell took the decision keeping in mind the injury he suffered in 2022 and fatigue in the recent Champions Trophy. His ODI record has been fantastic, including 4000 runs and 77 wickets in 149 matches. He will now focus on T20 cricket and wants to give a chance to the new generation.

Glenn Maxwell, one of Australia's legendary players, has announced his retirement from ODI cricket. However, he will still be available for the T20 Internationals and wants to keep playing until next year's T20 World Cup. The 36-year-old Maxwell took this decision considering the injury he suffered in 2022 and body fatigue in the recent Champions Trophy. He told in an interview that he felt that he was not able to play properly for the team, so he spoke to selector George Bailey and discussed future plans. Maxwell said that he now wants to hand over his post to others so that the new generation can come forward and prepare the team for the 2027 World Cup.

Maxwell's ODI record has been quite special. In 149 matches, he scored around 4000 runs and also took 77 wickets. He has a strike rate of 126.7, which is the highest in ODI cricket. His unbeaten knock of 201 against Afghanistan in Mumbai in the 2023 World Cup was special, which was Australia's first double century, and that too at a time when the team was in trouble. He also scored quick centuries against Sri Lanka in 2015 and the Netherlands in 2023. Another memorable innings of Maxwell was against England in 2020, where he led Australia to a difficult target.

Not only batting, Maxwell's bowling also benefited the team in many matches. He was Australia's main spinner in the 2015 World Cup and took 6 wickets. In the 2023 World Cup too, he impressed in matches with his spin. His fielding has also always been impressive.

Cricket Australia officials and former players are praising him a lot. He says that Maxwell gave a new color to ODI cricket, and now his contribution in T20 will also be big. Maxwell is currently recovering from an injury sustained in the IPL and will soon take part in Major League Cricket to be held in the US. After that, he will also be on the team for the Caribbean tour in July.
