After Rohit Sharma's retirement from Test cricket, the search for India's new captain continues. Due to Jasprit Bumrah's injury, there is a question on his captaincy. Gautam Gambhir has held a meeting on this issue, which has increased the prospects of Shubman Gill. The captain is yet to be announced ahead of India's tour of England.

Rohit Sharma has retired from Test cricket, after which the question that arises in everyone's mind is, if not Rohit, then who will be the next Test captain of India? Recently, it was being claimed in many reports that Shubman Gill will be made the new Test captain of India, but now there are some reports that India's head coach, Gautam Gambhir, has held a meeting regarding captaincy. India has to tour England in June, for which India's team and captain have not been announced yet.

Jasprit Bumrah was seen as the first captain but during the Sydney Test in Australia, he was captaining when he had to leave the field due to injury, although he also captained the Perth Test and won the match for India under his captaincy, but injury is a big reason why Jasprit Bumrah still cannot get the captaincy. He is unlikely to play all Test matches.

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar wrote on social media platform X on the news of Bumrah not being given the Test captaincy said,

"I am surprised that we are considering any other option other than Bumrah as Test captain. Are you worried about your injuries?"

Head coach Gautam Gambhir's presence in Mumbai to offer prayers at the Siddhivinayak temple led to rumors that Shubman Gill was still not ready for the captaincy role.

After a long meeting with the head coach in Delhi a few days ago for the new captain, there is little chance for the selectors or Gambhir to back down from their original stance.
