Mumbai Indians defeated Delhi Capitals to win the WPL 2025 title. Harmanpreet Kaur's knock of 66 and Nat Scheer-Brunt's 3-30 performance gave Mumbai a score of 149/7. Delhi's team was reduced to 141/9. Marizanne Kapp's 40 runs and Jemimah Rodrigues' 30 runs could not win Delhi.
Delhi Capitals failed to break their record of second best coming in the final of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 as Mumbai Indians kept the pressure under pressure to emerge victorious by eight runs in the final of the 2025 season and clinch their second title in front of 14,700 fans at the Brabourne Stadium on Saturday.
Mumbai's victory was set up by Captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who timed her shots and topped the score with 66, as the hosts posted 149/7. In a defence of 150, Nat Sciver-Brunt took 3-30, including the dismissal of Marizanne Kapp, while Amelia Kerr took 2-25 to restrict Delhi to 141/9 in 20 overs.
For DC, barring Marizan's 40, Jemimah's 30 and Nicky Prasad's 25 not out, none of DC's batsmen could contribute as they were again under pressure and couldn't handle MI's bowlers when it really mattered the most to become the most successful franchise in the WPL.
Chasing 150, DC lost both openers Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma in the first three overs. After which the team could not return.
Thanks to Mumbai Indians captain Harmanpreet Kaur's excellent innings of 66 runs and a half-century partnership with Nat Sciver-Brunt, Mumbai Indians managed to score 149 runs for seven wickets. Mumbai again performed brilliantly and restricted Delhi to 141 runs for nine wickets.
Marizanne Kapp kept the thrill in the match by scoring 40 runs off 43 balls but wickets kept falling from the other end. After Kapp's dismissal, Nikki Prasad tried to raise hope but Mumbai did not let its grip loosen.
Harmanpreet hit nine fours and two sixes in his 66 off 44 balls. Harmanpreet was adjudged Player of the Match. Nat Sciver-Brunt contributed 30 runs in 28 balls with four fours. G Kamalini scored 10 and Amanjot Kaur scored an unbeaten 14 to take Mumbai to a fighting score, which proved to be match-winning in the end.
