India won the five-match T20I series against England by a margin of 4-1, winning the final match by a big margin of 150 runs at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on February 2, Sunday. After the series win, Indian team head coach Gautam Gambhir gave a witty reply on the concussion-sub controversy that had taken place in the fourth T20I.
After this decision, England skipper Jos Buttler took a dig at India's decision to come up with Harshit Rana as a concussion substitute in the fourth T20I and disagreed with the decision of the host team. This happened when all-rounder Shivam Dube was hit on the helmet by Jamie Overton in the 19.5th over. He did finish the innings but did not take the field in the second innings, which was the result of Rana coming as a concussion substitute. However, India won the match by 15 runs, and later in the press conference, Buttler said that,
"Either Shivam Dube has put on about 25 mph with the ball or Harshit has really improved his batting. It's part of the game, and we really should have gone on to win the match, but we disagree with the decision."
Buttler in the fifth T20I against India came up with a fiery response at the toss in Mumbai when he was asked about his playing XI. After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, he said,
"And our four impact subs today are Rehan Ahmed, Saqib Mahmood, Jamie Smith, and Gus Atkinson."
After the win, when Kevin Pietersen asked about the whole matter of the concussion sub to Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir, he said,
"He would have bowled four overs for sure today."
The Indian bowlers bundled the opposition team to just 97 runs all out, registering their win of 150 runs. Talking about the fast bowler strategy, Gambhir said that because of the need of a batter at No. 8, this decision was taken.
"It is about having the No. 8 batter, even if he does not face too many balls, because of the kind of cricket that we are playing. We want to go as hard as possible, and sometimes that cushion of having that No. 8 would free up the top 7 more."
