Scoring a century in cricket is the most special moment for any player. This moment becomes even more special when you have scored a century in front of your family. India's 19-year-old Gongadi Trisha has become the first player to score a century in the ICC U19 Women's T20 World Cup.
Trisha scored an unbeaten 110 in the match against Scotland and helped the team reach 208 runs. Trisha shared an opening partnership of 147 runs with G Kamalini and then scored a century. Not only this, Trisha also showed amazing performance with the ball and took three wickets. The most important thing is that he gave this spectacular performance in front of her family at Bayuemas Oval.
Trisha said in the interview after the match,
"It was extremely special for me to have them in the crowd today. My family has been my absolute pillar of support and has always been encouraging. It feels surreal to me that I could score a hundred and then take three wickets in front of them."
She further said,
"To be honest, I never thought this would happen. I never thought that I would become the first player to score a century in the ICC Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup. That feeling is still lingering inside me. "
Scotland, chasing the target of 209 runs, also made a strong start. Pippa Kelly hit three boundaries in the first over. However, their run chase was ended by left-arm spin duo Ayushi Shukla and Vaishnavi Sharma. They took 7 wickets to reduce Scotland to 42 runs. Trisha then finished the innings with three wickets including two wickets in two balls.
"I enjoy my bowling, and I do work on my bowling during the practice. It feels great to have contributed with the bat and ball in the team’s win. It would have been to have picked up a hat-trick, but I am just glad that I picked three wickets as we secured a win," Trisha said.
