Indian Team's Poor Performance Sparks Talk of New Batting Coach

The recent performance of the Indian team has still been a topic of discussion; India lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia by 3-1. Now recently news has come out that states that the BCCI is considering adding a new batting coach to the coaching staff. This decision has been taken after India's poor performance in BGT.

According to some reports, it is being stated that this issue was discussed in the BCCI board meeting, but it is still uncertain whether BCCI will work on these ideas and go ahead with such an appointment or not.

After India's recent performance in the recent Test format, the role of the batting coach has come under question. India has won only three of its last 10 international Test matches. During BGT 2024-25, India's top batter, Virat Kohli, was repeatedly seen getting out on the outside off-stump ball, after which former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar also raised many questions.

In an interview, Gavaskar said that,

Sunil Gavaskar questions India's performance
"What was the coaching staff doing? Batting coach? India got bowled out for 46 against New Zealand. They failed to perform well in the remaining matches and lost the series. There was no character in the batting order. In Australia too, India's batting order lacked solidity."

He further questioned,

Virat Kohli
"We have to ask questions: 'Brothers, what have you done? Why hasn't there been any improvement?' If you tell me the bowling was unplayable (in both series) and then our batsmen couldn't cope with it, that's fine. Even the best players can't cope with unplayable bowling. But it wasn't like that. Tell me, what have you done?"

The current coaching staff of the Indian team includes head coach Gautam Gambhir, bowling coach Morne Morkel, assistant coach Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate, and fielding coach T. Dilip. Almost everyone on the staff has worked with Gambhir before.
