The Indian star batter Virat Kohli went through a poor form in the recently concluded series, due to which he faced a lot of criticism. As of now, the future of star cricketer is in doubt, who is struggling with his form. Kohli called off his time from T20I career and played his last ODI for India in August 2024. His recent Test stats show that he is struggling a lot in scoring runs; in the recently concluded series against Australia, he failed to show his power-packed performance with the bat. He managed to score only 190 runs at an average of 23.75 in five matches, despite scoring a century in Perth.
After his poor batting performance against Australia, Kohli grabbed headlines for his on-field confrontation with Australian young debutant Sam Konstas. This matter is taking no chance of getting an end; some day, someone will get up and start giving their opinions on this matter. This act of Kohli received him a penalty of 20 percent match fee by the International Cricket Council (ICC). Due to this incident he received a lot of booing and criticism from the Australian crowd.
Former Australian skipper Ian Chappell came up with his views on struggling batter Kohli, who is going through a rough patch in his career. Team India is all set for the tour of England in June-August. Chappell on advising Kohli said that he should be consistent to improve his game and also guide the young players through his valuable experience.
"Kohli's experience in the UK would be invaluable, and of the two (Kohli and Rohit Sharma), the problematic player, he's the most likely to be resuscitated. However, his consistency needs to improve in addition to dispensing valuable advice to younger players."
"Stop senseless antics like shouldering Kontsas" - Ian Chappell
Further, he said that Kohli needs to stop his senseless antics like he did with Konstas in the MCG Test. He also said that if Kohli decide to retire from Test cricket, then this will be a huge loss for the team in such a tough tour.
"He also has to stop his senseless antics like shouldering Kontsas in the MCG Test. If Kohli does decide to retire from Test cricket, the loss of both him and Rohit would leave a huge gap in the lineup for a tough tour."
