5 Indian Players Who May Not Make It to Champions Trophy 2025

Key Indian Players Who Might Not Make the Cut for Champions Trophy 2025

Darshna Khudania

The biggest cricket tournament of 2025, the ICC Champions Trophy is set to begin on February 19. The ICC has ordered all teams to release their squads for this tournament till January 12. Talking about the Indian team, some key players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah are sure to play in this crucial tournament. But today we will have a look at five players who have played many ODIs for India but might not get a chance in the Champions Trophy 2025.

1) Avesh Khan

Avesh Khan

The 28-year-old bowler Avesh Khan made his ODI debut for India against the West Indies in 2022. Avesh has played a total of 8 ODIs for India so far, in which he took 9 wickets. His best bowling figures are 4/27. Avesh Khan played the last ODI match for the Indian team in December 2023, which was against South Africa. Avesh took 2 wickets in that match. The Indian team currently has strong bowlers like Bumrah, Siraj and Arshdeep, so it is difficult for Avesh to make it to the Champions Trophy squad.

2) Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav is one of the best players in the T20 format and he has won many important matches for India alone. But Surya's performance in ODIs has not been anything special. Surya is known for batting at number four, but India already has Shreyas Iyer, who has done quite well in domestic cricket recently, for that position.

3) Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson

Wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson has recently performed brilliantly for India in the T20 format. But in ODIs, he has not been able to do anything special so far. India already has options like KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant in wicketkeeping, so Sanju is unlikely to play in the Champions Trophy.

4) Tilak Varma

Tilak Verma

The 22-year-old batsman has played four ODIs for India so far and has scored 68 runs. But recently, Tilak played an amazing innings in T20 matches for India and scored a notable century. Tilak's century came in the fourth match of the T20 series against South Africa. However, India currently has the option of all-rounders like Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube for batting in the middle order, so Tilak will not play in the Champions Trophy this year.

5) Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad

Gaikwad made his ODI debut for India against South Africa in 2022. He has played a total of 6 ODIs so far in which he has scored 115 runs. He last played an ODI for India in December 2023. Gaikwad is in great form at the moment but the selectors have players like Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal for the opening position. Therefore, it is difficult for Gaikwad to get a chance for the Champions Trophy 2025.
