The Indian star batter Virat Kohli has been facing a lot of criticism for his form in the recently concluded Test against Australia. India lost the series by a 1-3 margin, letting Australians lift up the trophy after 10 years. Kohli managed to score only 190 runs in nine innings at an average of 23.75, despite scoring a century in the opening Test in Perth. The reason for which he has been facing the continuous criticism is the same way of dismissal in the whole series. From last year he has a below-average of 25 in the longest format of the game. Due to his recent performance, many former players suggested he should return to domestic cricket, which will kick off on January 23.
Amongst all the criticism, Virat Kohli got the support of his former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) skipper, Faf du Plessis. When Faf was asked to comment on Kohli's retirement, he said that it is very personal, and no one knows when that time comes for that particular player.
"That is very, very personal. No one can speak to you about when that time is (up); as a player, you'll know."
Further, Du Plessis also said that Kohli is super motivated, has gone through it all before, and knows exactly what to do.
"I know someone like him is super motivated; he's gone through it all before, so he knows exactly what to do."
The 40-year-old recalled the time when he was going through the same thing and decided to step away from Test cricket. He said that at his time he got that the same hunger and drive didn't leave anymore, which was the perfect time for the newcomers to come.
"It is different for every player. Every player needs to answer that question. I remember when that time was for me. I just knew that certainly from the Test cricket perspective for me. I didn't have that same hunger and drive anymore, and I felt that stage certainly for me was a good time to let new guys come in and also step into the T20 world. I wanted to do that at the stage where I still felt like I was on top of my game."
