World's No. 1 chess player Magnus Carlsen's wife, Ella Victoria Malone, recently spoke openly about her personal life with Magnus Carlsen in an interview and shared a lot of details. Carlsen and Ella married in a private ceremony at the Holmenkollen Chapel in Oslo on January 4, 2025.
Ella spoke in detail about her first impressions of Carlson on the chess podcast Szaksnak, saying,
"When we first met, he was very cute, very shy and nervous. It was so cute, he's incredibly intelligent.
Ella Victoria Malone continued,
"He remembered my birthday instantly, which made me very happy. But turns out he has a great memory, so I'm not sure! He remembers everyone's birthday!"
Ella revealed that she became a chess fan after watching Netflix's popular documentary 'The Queen's Gambit'. She told that his rating on Chess.com is around 1100. Magnus Carlsen's mother is from Norway and father is from America. Although Ella was born in Hong Kong, she spent her childhood in Singapore. Carlsen's wife studied in the UK, USA and Canada.
Ella Victoria Malone revealed in an interview that she will now take a more active role in managing Carlsen's professional commitments. She said that she will now manage Carlsen's schedule and will also be the main person for the interviews with him.
"It works really well. I'm not bored sitting in the hotel and running my fingers and watching them play. We have a lot to do, and I love it," Ella said.
