Rohit Sharma's name has been removed from India's official team sheet, which the BCCI shared after the toss of the fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The Test is being played at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). According to some reports, it is being stated that Rohit Sharma has opted to rest in the final Test, but it is not clear whether he has been rested or dropped from the final Test. There is no official update shared by the BCCI through any source about Rohit's absence from the team sheet, which did not feature his name even in the reserve players' list. Jasprit Bumrah has been named as the captain of the Indian side for the Sydney Test, won the toss, and opted to bat first. The thing that shocked everyone was that Rohit did not feature alongside the team at the national anthem ceremony.

The names that made a comeback in the playing XI were Shubman Gill and Prasidh Krishna; the sheet has the names of all players who were there in India's official squad except Rohit Sharma. The players who are included in the list of reserve players are Devdutt Padikkal, Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel, Abhimanyu Easwaran, and H. Arshit Rana. Apart from Rohit Sharma, Akash Deep's name has also been removed as he was declared injured and unfit.

India won the toss and opted to bat first in the Sydney Test, but once again the players have given a disastrous start to batting. Yashasvi Jaiswal (10), KL Rahul (4), Shubman Gill (20), and Virat Kohli (17) again repeated the same mistake that he was continuously repeating in the series by playing the shot on off-stump ball. At present, Rishabh Pant (19) and Ravindra Jadeja (4) are on the field, remaining not out and standing tough on the field.
