The former Indian skipper Virat Kohli was involved in a fiery on-field clash with the debutant Sam Konstas in the 4th Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). All this happened after the 10th over was completed of the first innings of Australia. Both the players bumped shoulders with each other while they were moving across the pitch and exchanged a few words. The Australian player Usman Khawaja and umpire Michael Gough came in between them, maintaining the peace in the match.
According to some reports, Virat Kohli has been fined 20 percent of his match fee and got one demerit point, which has been added to his disciplinary record.
The ICC Code of Conduct states that,
"Any form of inappropriate physical contact is prohibited in cricket. Without limitation, players will breach this regulation if they deliberately, recklessly, and/or negligently walk or run into or shoulder another player or umpire."
The 19-year-old Konstas shone in his debut match, scoring 60 runs off 65 balls. He was batting on 27 runs, hit Jasprit Bumrah for two boundaries and a six in the next over, scoring a fifty on his debut match, and got trapped by Ravindra Jadeja for a leg before wicket.
Australia is on 311 with the loss of 6 wickets in 86 overs on the first day, with Sam Konstas, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, and Steve Smith scoring half-centuries, which helped the Aussies to make such a big score on the opening day. Steve Smith remains not out; Pat Cummins (8) will continue to play on the second day of the game. They will be looking forward to putting up a big score for the Men in Blue on the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne.
