The Australian opener Sam Konstas made his debut in Test cricket in the Boxing Day Test against India. The 19-year-old player made headlines in his debut match with his iconic knock of 60 runs off 65 balls in the first innings on Thursday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. More than his performance, he made headlines after he was involved with a heated altercation in the middle of the match. Konstas referred to Kohli as 'his favourite player in the whole orld.' After his dismissal by Ravindra Jadeja, he opened up on what actually happened between them in the middle of the innings.
Both the players exchanged few words in the recent incident; Australian opener Usman Khawaja came between them and tried to calm down the situation. Umpire Michael Gough also joined the on-field clash and tried to maintain the calm and composure in the game.
Konstas said that emotions got to both of them, and he didn't realise anything as he was doing gloves. On the incident, he said these kinds of things in cricket.
"I think the emotions got to both of us. I didn't quite realise as I was doing my gloves. But it happens in cricket."
Konstas addressed Bumrah as the world-class bowler and said that he played good cricket shots and tried to pull pressure on him, trying to change his tactics.
"It wasn't a plan yesterday. I was going to play good cricket shots, but Bumrah is obviously a world-class bowler, and yeah, just trying to pull pressure on him and trying to change his tactics was the key thing."
Australia won the toss and opted to bat first, making up a big score of 311 runs off 6 wickets in 86 overs. Sam Konstas (60), Usman Khawaja (57), Marnus Labuschagne (72), and Alex Carry (31) helped them to make such a score. Steve Smith (68) and Pat Cummins (8) will continue to play on the second day. The Aussies will be looking forward to making more runs on the second day of the Test as they have 4 more wickets left in their account.
