The Indian star batter Virat Kohli is going through a poor form in his career and facing a lot of criticism for the same. In the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, he is struggling to score runs, smashed a century in Perth, and after that he has only scored 26 runs in the other four innings.
Former South African player Herschelle Gibbs backed Kohli on his struggling form in the Tests. Kohli, during his U19 days, named Gibbs as one of his childhood heroes. In a recent interview, Gibbs stated that Kohli’s standards are still high, and he recently got a century a couple of weeks ago.
“He got a test hundred a couple of weeks ago. You don’t suddenly become a bad player in a couple of weeks. It was just three weeks ago when he got a hundred.
Further, Gibbs described him as a proud cricketer, and he’s impressed by his statistics. He also said it is very wrong to write him off, as he is a good player who would have sat down with the batting coach and found out what he is doing wrong.
“I think he’s a very proud cricketer, very proud of his statistics. He demands very high standards of himself. It’s wrong to write him off. He’s too good a player. Kohli would’ve probably sat down with the batting coach of India, and he would know what he’s doing wrong. You don’t play for years and years and score 9,000 Test runs without knowing what you’re doing wrong.”
Gibbs believes that Kohli loves a big occasion, and maybe he would be looking forward to scoring big runs in the Boxing Day Test.
“He loves the big occasion, and the Boxing Day Test will be a huge occasion. I back him to get runs.”
The fourth Test between India and Australia will start on December 26 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Both the teams will be looking forward to winning this Test and taking the lead in the series. After the third Test gets drawn due to bad weather and lightning, the series is at 1-1.
