The Australian opening player Nathan McSweeney has been dropped from the Australian squad for the upcoming Boxing Day Test. The fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will kick off on December 26 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The opening pair of Usman Khawaja and McSweeney won’t be seen in the upcoming Test. McSweeney failed to perform during his debut series, scoring 10 runs only once in all the innings he played to now.
The 25-year-old player's name has been excluded from the squad in the fourth Test. His performance has been under examination after he scored nine, four, 39, 10, 10, and a duck in the first Test.
The Australia Cricket Team has decided to make some changes in the team after dropping McSweeney. Sam Konstas, a young and promising player, has earned his maiden Test call-up. He has impressed a lot with his performances in the domestic matches, having an average of 55.83 this summer. In October he grabbed the attention of everyone by becoming the youngest player to score twin centuries in a Sheffield Shield match after Ricky Ponting.
It is a bit easy for him to play against Rohit Sharma’s team, as he has already played against them in the warm-up match for the Prime Minister XI, smashing a century.
Konstas on playing for Australia said that it would be a dream come true and hopes it happens one day for sure.
“It would be a dream come true. Maybe I’d get a little nervous before the game, but I’ve worked really hard for that. Hopefully, it happens one day, but we’ll see.”
