The Indian cricket team is going through a tough phase as players are not able to perform in the ongoing series. India won the first Test of the series in Perth by a big margin of 295 runs and lost the second Test in Adelaide by 10 wickets. In the ongoing third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the top batting order failed to perform except for KL Rahul, and the bowlers also struggled to take wickets except for Jasprit Bumrah. Australia has put up a big target of 445 runs in the first innings while India is reduced to 167 with the loss of 6 wickets.
"You don’t have the measure of what the wicket is doing" - Sunil Gavaskar
Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar is not impressed with the performance of India in the third Test at the Gabba. He pointed out to Shubman Gill that some shots are dangerous at the start of innings before you are set, and you should be more careful.
“Leave your image in the dressing room. Certain shots are dangerous at the start of your innings before you are set, and you don’t have the measure of what the wicket is doing.”
Further, Gavaskar said that you should take your shots in between 30-40-50 overs when you are not out, and then you can try those shots. He criticised Gill for his poor shot selection in the game.
“Keep all those shots in your back pocket. Take them out when you are 30-40-50 not out, then can you get those shots again? Not very good shot selection, you could say. It was a very good catch, so there was a little bit of bad luck as well over there. But he could have left that ball alone; it would have gone harmlessly to the wicketkeeper. Gill is now back in the dugout.”
