The 25-year-old Prithvi Shaw went unsold at the IPL 2025 Auction on Monday. Despite being offered at a base price of INR 75 lakh on the second day of the auction, no franchise showed their interest in buying him and he didn’t return in the expedited round. In a social media video that went viral amid the IPL snub, Shaw spoke out against the constant bullying he has had since his cricket career had a downfall.
Shaw was seen discussing how he handles criticism on social media in a video posted on YouTube. The Mumbai cricketer pointed out that the majority of these social media users do not follow him on any social media platforms but are still monitoring his activities. Shaw admitted that some of the shared memes and posts have harmed him.
“If he is not following me, then how will he troll? That means he has eyes on me, nice. I feel like trolling is not a good thing, but it is not such a bad thing either. If people make memes on me, I see them as well. I sometimes get hurt," said Shaw.
Prithvi Shaw recalled a recent instance of trolling in which he was seen dancing in a video that went viral on social media. He questioned the reasoning for some of the harsh responses he saw and remarked that it was only his birthday. Shaw was part of the Delhi Capitals franchise for seven seasons starting in 2018. Shaw has been struggling in domestic cricket and was recently cut out of Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy team, allegedly because of fitness issues. Then they reduced his base price from INR 2 crore to INR 75 lakh, but it did not attract any interest.
While speaking on Jio Cinema, former assistant coach of DC, Mohammad Kaif, said it was shameful that he did not get picked at the auction and urged Shaw to focus on his training, go back to domestic cricket and earn his reputation back.
“Delhi backed Prithvi Shaw a lot. They believed he could dominate the powerplay and hit six boundaries in an over, and he did that too. He smashed Shivam Mavi for six fours in one over,” said Kaif.
