Sunil Narine Ties World Record for Most T20 Wickets for a Single Team

West Indies spinner Sunil Narine has equalled the world record for taking the most wickets for a team in T20 while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders. In the match against Delhi, he took 3 wickets and equaled Samit Patel's record of 208 wickets. With this win, KKR kept their hopes of making it to the IPL 2025 playoffs alive.

West Indies spinner Sunil Narine has been a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders franchise since 2012 in the IPL. During the 48th match of IPL 2025 between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday, the world record for most wickets for a team has been equaled.

Since making his T20 debut for Kolkata in 2012, Narine has played 195 matches for the franchise and has taken 208 wickets. Chasing a target of 205 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday, he dismissed three Delhi Capitals  batsmen. He took 3 wickets for 29 runs in four overs and equaled former England all-rounder Samit Patel's world record of 208 wickets. Narine has dismissed 190 batsmen in 186 IPL matches and 18 batsmen in T20 matches for KKR.

Thanks to Sunil Narine's brilliant performance in the match against Delhi Capitals, Kolkata defeated Delhi by 14 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium and kept alive the hopes of staying in the top 4 and making it to the IPL 2025 playoffs. Narine opened his wicket account by dismissing Delhi captain Akshar Patel on the second ball of the 14th over of the match. Axar had scored 43 runs off 23 balls which included four fours and three sixes. On the last ball of the same over, Narine bowled Tristan Stubbs out.

KKR vs DC

Narine took his third wicket in the form of Faf du Plessis. Faf was caught by Rinku Singh on the second ball of the 16th over. The South African player scored 62 runs off 45 balls. Kolkata won the match by 14 runs.
