Jagdeep Dhankhar, the vice president, has stepped down. He wrote an emotional letter to President Draupadi Murmu during this time, stating that the decision was made because of his poor health. Jagdeep Dhankhar was born on May 18, 1951, into a modest farming family in the Rajasthani district of Jhunjhunu, in the small village of Kithana. During his vice-presidential nomination, the BJP asserted in their political statement that he was the son of a farmer.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar's educational background

Sainik School in Chittorgarh is where Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar finished his education. He later earned an LLB and a Bachelor of Science from Rajasthan University in Jaipur. He registered with the Rajasthan Bar Council in 1979 after finishing his education, and the Rajasthan High Court named him a Senior Advocate in 1990.

Getting involved in politics

In 1989, after winning the Lok Sabha elections from Jhunjhunu on a Janata Dal ticket, he entered politics in addition to practicing law. This support was helpful in Parliament and quickly led to the position of minister. We should mention that he was in charge of crucial government-legislative coordination.

Later, from 1993 to 1998, he served as a member of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, representing the Kishangarh constituency. Throughout his political career, Jagdeep Dhankhar was involved with a number of parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Indian National Congress (INC), and the Janata Dal.

Became Bengal's governor

In July 2019, Dhankhar became a politician and was named Governor of West Bengal. However, during this time, he and the TMC government had ongoing disagreements about federalism, university appointments, and law and order. Critics also accused him of going beyond constitutional bounds.

Assumed the role of Vice President

On July 16, 2022, the BJP announced Dhankhar as the National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) nominee for vice president, following his appointment as governor of Bengal. Dhankhar defeated opposition candidate Margaret Alva by a margin of 182 votes in the August 6, 2022, vice presidential election. Out of 725 votes, Jagdeep Dhankhar received 528. Meanwhile, opposition candidate Margaret Alva received 182 votes. He became the nation's fourteenth vice president after winning by a landslide.
