Rajnath Singh to present India's peace vision at SCO Meeting in China

Security and counter-terrorism cooperation will be discussed.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting in Qingdao, China on June 25-26. The meeting will discuss regional and international peace, security and counter-terrorism cooperation. Rajnath Singh will present India's global peace vision and focus on enhancing trade and economic cooperation within the SCO.

New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting to be held in Qingdao, China on June 25-26. The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is expected to discuss issues such as regional and international peace, security, counter-terrorism cooperation and cooperation among the defence ministries of the SCO member states. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will enunciate India's vision of global peace and security, call for joint efforts to eradicate terrorism and extremism and focus on enhancing trade, economic cooperation and connectivity within the SCO. He will also hold bilateral talks with defence ministers of some countries, including China and Russia.

The Defence Minister's Office shared a post on social media platform X giving information about the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). "Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will lead a high-level Indian delegation to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers' meeting to be held in Qingdao, China from June 25 to 26, 2025," he said. "

India attaches importance to the SCO to enhance multilateral cooperation, political, security, economic and people-to-people contacts in the region. The policy of the SCO is based on the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, non-interference in internal affairs, mutual respect and equality. The SCO is an inter-governmental organization, established in 2001.

India became a full member in 2017 and assumed its presidency in 2023. The members of the SCO include Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran, Belarus and India. China has assumed the chairmanship of the SCO for 2025 under the theme 'Upholding the Shanghai Spirit: SCO is moving forward'.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is being held at a time when there has been a situation of tension between India-Pakistan, Russia-Ukraine and Israel-Iran.
