The Central Government has approved the appointment of three judges following the recommendations of the Supreme Court Collegium. Justices NV Anjaria, Vijay Bishnoi and AS Chandurkar were elevated to the Supreme Court. Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal announced the appointments, which took place with the consent of the President and the Chief Justice of India.
The central government has sanctioned the Supreme Court collegium's proposal to elevate three high court judges to the Supreme Court. The appointed judges are Karnataka High Court Chief Justice NV Anjaria, Gauhati High Court Chief Justice Vijay Bishnoi, and Bombay High Court Judge Justice A S Chandurkar.
Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal announced on the 10th that the President has sanctioned the promotion of these judges to the Supreme Court following discussions with the Chief Justice of India. This recommendation was made by the Supreme Court Collegium, led by Chief Justice of India BR Gavai, during their meeting on May 26, 2025.
Career of Justice NV Anjaria
Justice Anjaria began his legal profession at the Gujarat High Court in August 1988, was designated as an additional judge on November 21, 2011, and ascended to the position of permanent judge on September 6, 2013. He assumed the role of Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court on February 25, 2024.
Career of Justice Vijay Bishnoi
Justice Vijay Bishnoi, who began his legal practice on July 8, 1989, worked at the Rajasthan High Court and the Central Administrative Tribunal in Jodhpur. He was appointed as an Additional Judge at the Rajasthan High Court on January 8, 2013, and was promoted to a permanent Judge on January 7, 2015. He took office as the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court on February 5, 2024.
Career of Justice A.S. Chandurkar
Justice A.S. Chandurkar started his legal profession in Mumbai in July 1988. He moved his practice to Nagpur in 1992. He became an Additional Judge at the Bombay High Court on June 21, 2013.
