Rekha Gupta, Delhi's Chief Minister, has accused the AAP government of mismanagement leading to a Rs 70,471 crore loss for DTC. The CAG report indicates that funds were misused for advertisements, and the number of operational buses decreased, exacerbating the financial strain.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday alleged that the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) suffered a loss of Rs 70,471 crore during the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government.  The AAP party has put a profitable portfolio in deficit. DTC incurred a loss of Rs 70,471 crore. There was an operating loss of Rs 14,198 crore. Out of 814 routes, only 468 buses were plyed. The AAP government has only spent money on advertisements. The Centre had given Rs 233 crore but that too was not spent.

Accusations against AAP

CM Rekha Gupta said that  earlier 4344 buses used to run, but during the AAP tenure, this number came down to 3937. Accusing the AAP government, he said that DTC's partner agency IDFC had advised the Delhi government to buy its shares and IDFC sold shares worth 95 crores to a private company for just 10 crores. Today, the cost of DTC is only Rs 20 crore. The AAP government has made DTC a loss. Today, 4,000 bus drivers are being paid salaries without work because there are no buses.

DTC will be made a revenue generator

CM Rekha Gupta said that the CAG report should be sent to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). We will not only bring DTC into profit, but also make DTC a revenue generator. We will issue free travel cards to women. Today, there is no data on how many women are traveling for free.

There was a detailed discussion on the CAG report related to the functioning of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) in the House, in which many members expressed concern in this regard. CAG audit covers the period from 2015-2016 to 2021-2022. The report has highlighted serious irregularities in the functioning of DTC. The CAG report states that crores of rupees of Delhi's taxpayers have been wasted due to the mismanagement and negligence of the government. The report is now being sent to the Committee on Public Undertakings which has been directed to submit its report within three months. Also, the transport department and DTC will have to submit their action taken report to the Assembly Secretariat within a month.
