In Uttarakhand, several important steps are being taken before the commencement of Char Dham Yatra. Work is being done under several initiatives for the convenience of the passengers. Now the Ministry of Electronics and IT said that to improve the registration process, Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) has introduced Aadhaar authentication and eKYC to register for Char Dham and Hemkund Sahib Yatra, one of India's most important pilgrimage sites. It aims to reduce the registration time and enhance the Char Dham Yatra experience for pilgrims.
Online registration based on Aadhaar card is important for pilgrims as well as officials. The authorities can also monitor the movements of pilgrims, better prepare to avoid overcrowding in temples and improve meteorological information flow, especially in high altitude areas. The registration for the Chardham and Hemkund Sahib Yatra 2025 began on March 20 and till this morning, over 750,000 pilgrims have availed the Aadhaar-based online registration facility, the release said.
The move is expected to help prevent duplication of registration, which will give an opportunity to more pilgrims to undertake the pilgrimage, Aadhaar-based digital verification is expected to speed up the registration process and reduce paperwork, as well as continue offline registration at designated centres.
Aadhaar-linked registration can also help in better planning and management of accommodation, transport, food and medical assistance based on the actual number of registered pilgrims, thereby curbing wastage and depletion of resources. It can also be helpful in better addressing the emergency situation as it can further improve coordination between pilgrims and authorities, the release said
