Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri called on Delhi residents to restore the city, which he alleges has been damaged by the AAP over the years, after casting his vote in the Assembly election. Voting for 70 assembly seats began on Wednesday morning in Delhi, with voters taking part in the 8th Assembly election under tight security measures. Officials announced that voting started at 7:00 am and will go on until 6:00 pm. Key constituencies in the heated contest include New Delhi, Jangpura, Kalkaji, Okhla, Mustafabad, Bijwasan, Kasturba Nagar, Greater Kailash, and Patparganj, among others.
AAP, holding over 60 of the 70 seats in the assembly, aims for re-election by highlighting its past accomplishments. The New Delhi seat is witnessing a prominent three-way battle among former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal (AAP), BJP's Parvesh Verma, and Congress's Sandeep Dikshit (son of former CM Sheila Dikshit). In Jangpura, the electoral battle features AAP's Manish Sisodia, Congress's Farhad Suri, and BJP's Tarvinder Singh Marwah. Across the 70 assembly constituency seats in the national capital, 699 candidates are competing. Delhi has 1,561,400 registered voters, comprising 837,617 males, 723,656 females, and 1,267 third-gender individuals. The voter base also includes 239,905 first-time voters aged 18-19, 109,368 senior citizens aged 85 and above, and 79,885 people with disabilities.
