Mahakumbh draws over 350 million devotees to Sangam for holy dip

The holy confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers in Prayagraj is experiencing an extraordinary display of faith as sages, saints, devotees, Kalpvasis, and pilgrims engage in devotion during Mahakumbh. On the auspicious day of Basant Panchami's Amrit Snan, the total number of bathers since the beginning of Mahakumbh has exceeded 350 million (35 crores), according to an official statement from the administration.

By 8 am on Monday, 6.2 million worshippers had taken a holy dip at Triveni Sangam, marking a historic milestone. With 23 days remaining in the Mahakumbh, the total number of attendees is anticipated to exceed 500 million. The spiritual fervor in Prayagraj is unwavering, as millions from India and across the globe arrive daily to receive divine blessings through the sacred dip.

On Sunday, February 2, approximately 12 million devotees took part in the ritual, bringing the total count to nearly 350 million, which was exceeded on Monday morning. This group included 1 million Kalpvasis, saints, and devotees from around the world. A detailed examination of the figures shows that the largest gathering occurred on Mauni Amavasya when 80 million devotees bathed in the Sangam.

This is followed by 35 million on Makar Sankranti, over 20 million on January 30 and February 1, and 17 million on Paush Purnima. Notable figures from various sectors have also taken the holy dip at the Sangam, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath along with his cabinet.

Other prominent individuals include Governor Anandiben Patel, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal, Union Ministers Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Arjun Ram Meghwal, BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi, Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murthy, Assam Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary, and SP leader Akhilesh Yadav.
Actors Hema Malini, Anupam Kher, Bhagyashree, and Milind Soman, along with poet Kumar Vishwas, cricketer Suresh Raina, wrestler Khali, choreographer Remo D'Souza, and Mamta Kulkarni, Mahamandaleshwar of Kinnar Akhara, from Bollywood and the sports world, have also taken part.

As the Mahakumbh progresses, the immense faith and devotion shown by millions highlight the enduring spiritual importance of this magnificent event. Starting on January 13 and running until February 26, the Maha Kumbh 2025 has already drawn millions of devotees from both within the country and globally, with expectations of breaking new records for attendance and participation.
