Responding to remarks made by senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, the Rashtrapati Bhavan, without directly mentioning her, described them as 'unacceptable' and stated that they 'clearly undermined the dignity of the high office'. The Rashtrapati Bhavan clarified that President Droupadi Murmu was never tired, emphasizing that she believes advocating for marginalized communities, women, and farmers is never exhausting.
In a statement, the Rashtrapati Bhavan said, "In response to the Hon'ble President's address to the media, several key Congress party leaders have made remarks that undermine the dignity of the high office, making them unacceptable."
The leaders mentioned that the President was extremely exhausted by the end and struggled to speak. They also noted that it is possible the leaders are not well-versed in idioms and discourse in Indian languages, and regardless, such comments are inappropriate, regrettable, and entirely preventable.
The Rashtrapati Bhavan wants to clarify that the claim is completely unfounded. The president was not tired at any time. In fact, she feels that advocating for marginalized communities, women, and farmers, as she did in her speech, is never tiring. The President's Office suggests that these leaders might not be well-versed in idioms and discourse in Indian languages such as Hindi, leading to a misunderstanding.
This follows President Murmu's address to the joint session of Parliament, after which Sonia Gandhi commented that 'by the end, the President was very tired.' She could hardly speak, poor thing. In response, BJP leaders have harshly criticized the former Congress chief's statements.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju demanded an apology from the Congress party. "I condemn the comments made by Sonia Gandhi and other opposition leaders. Our president, a tribal woman, is not weak. Draupadi Murmu has worked extensively for the country and society and they can't even imagine the kind of work she has done... They should apologise to him. "
