Farmers from Punjab and Haryana have been on an indefinite hunger strike at Khanauri border since November 26 to press for their demands, including the MSP guarantee law on all crops. The farmers are urging the central government to accept their demands. New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday expressed concern over the health and safety of Punjab farmer leader Jagjit Dallewal, who is on a hunger strike unto death. At the same time, the Supreme Court has reprimanded the farmer leaders who are opposing the hospitalization of farmer leader Jagjit.
Hearing in the Supreme Court
During the hearing in the Supreme Court, Justice Surya Kant told the Chief Secretary of the Punjab Government that the protesting farmers who are opposing the admission of Jagjit Dallewal to the hospital are not his well-wishers. The apex court also directed the Punjab government to take stringent measures to provide medical assistance to Jagjit.
What did the Punjab Government say to Supreme Court?
Following the Supreme Court's directive, the Punjab government expressed helplessness and said that they are facing resistance from the farmers protesting at the border. Farmer leader Jagjit Dallewal has also refused to seek all medical aid, saying it may weaken the protest.
Next Hearing will be on December 31
