Penalty of Rs 7 Lakh each has been imposed on Vajirao, Reddy institute and Study IQ because they were advertising misleading information and claims regarding the result of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), Civil Services Examination 2022 and 23.
The Central Consumer Protection Authority has also imposed penalty of Rs 1 Lakh on edge IAS for advertising misleading information and claims about the same year results.
Following the incident, authority has issued a complaint for the institutes and stated them to stop giving misleading information and claims through advertisements with immediate effect.
CCPA has taken these actions to protect and promote the right of consumers and also assures that no misleading claims should be made through advertisements for any goods and services of the consumer protect act, 2019.
Following the incident CCPA has issued 45 notices to various coaching institutes for misleading advertisement. Authority has imposed a penalty of 71 lakhs and 60,000 to many coaching centres.
The head, Nidhi Khare and the head commissioner, Anupam Mishra found that Vajirao and Reddy institute displayed the names and picture of their successful candidates and their various courses on their official website.
CCPA, also found that it's the right of all the students that they should get information about the courses opt by the successful candidates.
The misleading claims by advertisement was showing that all their courses opted by candidates have the same success rate, although it wasn't right. These information are very important for candidates as it'll help them in choosing the right course according to their preferences.
CCPA also founded that EDGE IQ displayed the courses like Mentoring course and IGP. These only came after clearing the preliminary and mains examination.
111 candidated were enrolled in Interview Guidance Program (IGP).
