The farmers' agitation is gaining momentum. Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Padher has called for a Punjab bandh on December 30. He said that this call is getting support from many organizations.
The decision to call for the Punjab bandh was taken by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (non-political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha last week. The Samyukta Kisan Morcha took the decision to make the Punjab bandh a success.
Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Samiti-Punjab leader Shravan Singh Pandher said on Thursday that the call for 'Punjab Bandh' on December 30 is getting support from various groups.
Addressing a press conference at the Khannur border, Pandher said, "Punjab will be closed from 7 am to 4 pm on December 30. We have received support from many unions and groups. Both Punjab government and private offices will remain closed on this day. Rail and road traffic will also be closed on December 30. '
The protest organised by farmers from Punjab at Khanauri border in Sangrur district near the Haryana border entered its 318th day. They have been protesting since February 13, 2024, for their various demands, including the enactment of a law to guarantee the Minimum Support Price (MSP).
On Tuesday, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann hit out at the central government, saying it should give up its "stubbornness" and open the way for talks with farmers. He also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and asked him that if he can stop the war between Russia and Ukraine then why can't he talk to the farmers sitting 200 km away?
"The central government should give up its old stubbornness and open the way for talks with farmer unions... The cat doesn't run away when a pigeon winks. Don't know what atonement the central government is doing now? If Modi can stop the war between Russia and Ukraine, can't he talk to farmers sitting 200 km away?" Earlier, on the occasion of Kisan Diwas, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan stressed on the commitment of the central government for the welfare of farmers under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
